Airport Access:  Elkader Municipal Airport has a turf runway measuring 1,860 feet.  It is located two miles east of the city. 

Commercial Air Service: Commercial air line service is available at Dubuque Regional Airport, Waterloo Regional Airport and the Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids.  Each is approximately a 90-minute drive from Elkader. Charter service and private jet service is available at all three airports and at the Prairie du Chien Airport, 25 miles northeast of Elkader.

Railway Access: Scheduled rail service is 20 miles northeast in McGregor.

Passenger Rail Service: Amtrak service is available at La Crosse, WI, 80 miles north of Elkader.

Bus Service:  Currently, there is no commercial bus service in operation for Elkader or Clayton County. Depots for commercial service are located in West Union, Decorah and Manchester – a trip of 25-42 miles.

Major Road Systems
Iowa Highway 13 - 1/4 mile - Business Highway 13 extends from the Cedar Rapids area north to 8 miles west of the Marquette/McGregor area.  Average vehicle count per day ranges from 6000 near Cedar Rapids to 4880 at the High Street/Highway 13 by-pass intersection just north of the Elkader city limits.  The highway has many passing lanes in the hilly stretch of road between Strawberry Point and Elkader.  Some congestion is possible on Highways 13 and 18 in the Elkader and McGregor areas on major holidays during tourist season.

Iowa Highway 56 runs 24 miles south from West Union to Elkader.  Average vehicle count is 870 per day.

U.S. Highway 52 - 9 miles
