The Central Community School district facility located in Elkader serves the educational needs of approximately 550 K-12 students in Elkader and the surrounding communities. Preschool and day care services are provided by the Elkader Childcare and Learning Center.

Higher education and vocational-technical training are available at Northeast Iowa Community College located in Calmar and Upper Iowa University in Fayette, both within easy driving distance.
