Price House

Price House - 206 Cedar St.

Realto E. Price purchased this property in 1870. The records do not indicate whether the house had already been built at that time. Mr. Price was born in 1840 and tradition says he was the second white child born in Clayton County. His father was Eliphalet Price who took an active part in the organization of the county and held the first Court of Justice within the county limits in 1838. Realto was an attorney in Elkader for 57 years. He was very active in the town and county affairs and had a profound influence on the development of the area. The McTaggart family purchased the house in 1943. In January 1976 the State Preservation Program nominated this home to the National Register of Historic Places.
