June Workshop Series for Independent Businesses
The workshop series is free to attendees!

The Iowa Downtown Resource Center, housed at the Iowa Department of Economic Development (IDED), is sponsoring a regional workshop series for several months in 2009, presenting a variety of expert trainers for independent businesses to learn new skills and techniques. These workshops are an opportunity to strengthen businesses in tough economic times, and are available free of charge to attendees.
After devastating natural disasters in 2008 and now the economic recession, it’s more important now than ever to keep on top of best practices that improve the bottom line and strengthen long-term viability. Workshops will also include a brief presentation from IDED about Community Development Block Grants, a program to strengthen communities through infrastructure and community development projects.

“Maximizing the Customer…A System That Will Turn Everyday Customers into Fanatic Followers”

Workshop Description:

Especially suited for independent, small to medium-sized retailers, this workshop will provide participants with strategies and skills to make multiple sales while having the customer appreciate their efforts. In times like these where fewer customers are walking in the door, special techniques are critical to position the customer as a true business asset. Strategies range from basics like how to ask a customer where they have shopped, what they have been impressed with, to utilizing the customer on advisory boards. Techniques also include how to create and manage effective customer surveys and how to generate referrals.
